Preparing for Your Interview

Ready to join the team at Morgan Stanley? Here are a few helpful tips on how to prepare for your interview.

Take the Next Step With Morgan Stanley

Your interview is an opportunity to show us what you could bring to the team at Morgan Stanley. We use these conversations to find out who you are and what motivates you; if you understand our business and what the job entails.

Your discussion will be based on what the job requires and your unique experience. As you prepare, consider this:If you were meeting yourself for the first time, what would you ask?

Enjoy the conversation, be honest, and don’t be afraid to show the real you. We’re looking for exceptional individuals.

Your Preparation Guide

  1. Your Preparation Guide

Think about how to best tell your story—which starts with knowing your résumé. Be prepared to talk about past experiences that demonstrate why you would be an ideal candidate, whether from relevant jobs, projects, coursework or extracurricular activities. Know your strengths and be able to articulate the areas you want to develop.

Answer each question as best you can, but we don’t always expect candidates to have the right answer during an interview. We’re just as interested to see how you work through a scenario. Interviews could be technical or based on competency, strengths or skills.

  2. Express Your Personal Brand

We all have a personal brand. What makes you unique? Think about how you’d like to differentiate yourself from other candidates while presenting yourself professionally.

It helps to practice interviewing and get comfortable speaking about yourself beforehand. Be conscious of your body language, maintain eye contact, and let the interviewer finish their thought before you respond. Take your time before answering questions and try to communicate concisely.

  3. Share Your Interests

Passion is imperative—it’s what sets Morgan Stanley apart. Have a compelling reason for why you want to work in this industry, our firm, and the division you’re interested in and show how the position aligns with your goals and expertise. We encourage you to ask the interviewer relevant questions—the more specific, the better.

At Morgan Stanley, we believe that diversity and inclusiveness make us stronger. How will your passion help enrich our culture?

  4. Know Our Firm and Industry

We don’t expect candidates to underst and all spheres of the markets, finance and economics, but it’s a good idea to choose one or two areas you can discuss with enthusiasm. Get to know the basics of the financial industry and keep up to date on the latest news, trends and innovations. Make an effort to understand what professionals at your level do in the industry and at Morgan Stanley.

Be sure to leverage our online resources to help you. Familiarise yourself with Morgan Stanley’s history, core values and positioning in the marketplace.

Enjoy your time preparing for the interview. Opportunities like this don’t come around often.
